And only nine days late. As the steamy August nights began to give way to cool September breezes, my mom was giving up hope that I would ever come on my own. But after weeks of long walks, spicy foods, and other old wives’ methods were tried and failed, I finally decided I was ready for the world. After all that waiting, my actual labor and birth was quick and easy (as these things go). I was born on September 4th — the Jewish New Year — and weighed in at 7lbs 11oz.
